FAQ

How did you get started in writing?

Like most creatives, I knew that I had an itch for it right away. I have vague memories of creating comic strips in crayon pre-preschool, with a cabal of recurring characters to boot. My sixth-grade teacher, Mrs. Paxton, saw this unbridled energy and homed-in on it. With her guidance, I published Rocket 2032 at 14.

How did you get your start in music and arts journalism?

My sister is a makeup artist and beauty influencer. At the time, she was pulling in daily blog views in the thousands. Inspired (and jealous), I chose to pursue a similar path. Music is my topmost passion, and so I began writing about it with Yahoo! Voices in 2012.

One door closed with that program’s 2013 closure, and another door opened as I took my passions to local music and local news. The rest is a lengthy and twist-turny history.

What first interested you about creating podcasts?

Lister and I are complete nerds about Super Smash Bros. When we were younger, we would populate the same Smash-themed web forums together. We’ve developed some of our closest mutual friendships through these same groups. With how busy a freelancer’s average day can become, creating Super Cast Bros. was my way of maintaining these passions through creative output. The conversations we would have had anyway are now an organized outlet for our longwinded minds, and that’s a beautiful thing.

A mutual adoration for the Tucson music scene inspired Petie Ronstadt and I’s upcoming podcast, From Tucson to Tucumcari. I’m lucky to be pursuing these projects with friends as close as these.
